Already skied a little and ready to learn more?

Beginner Courses

For you:

  • Who are not completely new to skiing. You should be able to stand on your skis, move on easy terrain, take short trips on your own, and stop on flat ground.
  • Want to improve your balance, coordination, and confidence on skis
  • Can move on skis, but struggle with technique and efficiency

You will learn:

  • Basic classic techniques and understand when to use each one.
  • How to improve balance, glide, and weight transfer

If you are more experienced, you may want to consider one of our courses offered in Norwegian. Our Norwegian courses cater to all levels, from complete beginners to advanced skiers.

Where are the courses held?

All of our English courses are held at Øvresetertjern.
Our private lessons can be held at one of our other course locations.

Meeting Point

Meet up by an information board. It is located on the opposite side of the road from Øvreseter parking lot. You can see the logo of Skiforeningen on the board. See photo below.

Directions by car

Drive past Holmenkollen National Arena and follow the signs towards Tryvann Winter Park. Øvreseter parking lot is on the left-hand side of the road before you reach a kindergarten. Øvresetertjern and the meeting point are then located on the opposite side of the road from the parking lot.

Public transport

Take metro line 1 (Frognerseteren) to Voksenkollen station. From there, it’s about a 5-minute walk up to Øvresetertjern. When you exit the metro, follow the pedestrian path on the left-hand side. You’ll need to cross the bridge that goes over the metro tracks. Continue along Tryvannsveien until you reach a kindergarten. The parking lot is located just below the kindergarten.

When are the courses held?

Weekend Courses

We have weekend courses on Saturday and Sunday (one session each day)

Weekday Courses
Our Weekday courses start at either 5.30 PM or 7.15 PM.
These courses run over either two or three sessions. The sessions are happening at the same day and time for two or three weeks.

We are flexible regarding both time and location for our private lessons.

How long is each session?

Each session lasts 90 minutes. Please arrive a few minutes early so you’re ready to begin on time.

What kind of equipment do I need to bring?

Bring pre-waxed skis, poles, cross-country ski boots, and clothing appropriate for the weather.

Both waxable and waxless skis (like skin skis) work well for our classic courses.

Do you offer ski rentals?
